We’re delighted to announce that the Summer School will be back in Melbourne in January 2027.
Our current plan is to run the school from Friday 22 January (afternoon) to Monday 25 January (lunchtime). Note that the official holiday in 2027 is on the Tuesday! We considered extending the school to three full days, but in the interests of keeping costs as low as possible, it was decided to stick with the two and a half day format. The might be the possibility of offering an extra day’s accommodation, if you would like to stay another day.
The classes and accommodation will be at Newman College, a college associated with the University of Melbourne in Carlton.
It would be a great help to us if you could fill out this short survey. It will help us to gauge student numbers and accommodation costs, manage the mailing list and get feedback from you.

We put on a summer school over the Invasion Day (Australia Day) long weekend. During the school there are classes for everybody from beginner to fluent speaker. There’s fun as well like trivia night, the concert, sessions and other activities, including elective classes where you can learn about a range of other subjects through Irish. If you’re after a weekend full to the brim with Irish, come to Melbourne Summer School!
History
For a long time, it was called Daonscoil and it was run out in the country, but after a couple of years without a school, it was re-established in the city of Melbourne and renamed Gaeltacht Melbourne. Like many other events, COVID-19 put an end to it and we haven’t managed to put on a school since 2020, but in 2027 the school will be back under the simpler name: Scoil Samhraidh Melbourne (Melbourne Summer School).
